My Favorite Place...Practically Perfect In Every Way

I have been flying all over the world since I was young, much in part because none of my extended family lives in the United States. As I got older, my excursions got further and futher from East/Southeast Asia and began creeping into the riches of Europe, and whan incredible joy it has been. Throughout my time in Italy, Spain, Germany, etc., I kept retuning to the United Kingdom. London is truly one of the most beautiful and energetic cities I have been to. It is rich with history and culture, making Oklahoma pale in comparison. I have always preferred large cities to the mundane country life, and there is nowhere I'd rather enjoy my years than in the United Kingdom.

What better place to feel the pulse of the city than at Piccadilly Circus?

(on one side you can see some amazing architecture, and on the other the large electronic billboards always flashing their lights to the busy patrons below)

And if the noise and business becomes too much, you can always enjoy the parks and ever present flocks in the parks surrounding Buckingham Palace.

As the UK is an island, weekend vacations to the beach are very easy to make, and very much worth the drive. One of my favorite experiences was experiencing the huge white cliffs and dramatic drop off to the ocean. The strong wind and rolling green landscapes provide healing from the busy city.

London, along with the rest of the United Kingdom, has so much to offer during any season! You can always meet a plethora of people from all over the world and there are always plays and concerts of all sorts being performed. Whether you prefer browsing local selections at Borough market, watching street performers at Leicester Square, or shopping on Oxford Street, you're guaranteed to have an incredible time.

  1. Hi Moriah!

It was really cool reading about your travels in London and the UK, since I'm going on a study abroad trip in the UK this summer! I loved your pictures.

The pictures of the coast and the ocean were especially beautiful and a part of the UK that I feel like doesn't get as much attention. Hopefully I'll be able to see them for myself!

  2. Hi Moriah,
It was amazing to see your photos of the United Kingdom. I, personally, have never been, but it is on my bucket list to go! That's amazing how much you travel. I, too, love to travel, but I do it more in the United States, rather than internationally. Compared to you, I have a lot left to see of the world! Also, Oklahoma may not be the best place to have fun, but home is always the best to live (to me, that is). :)
Can't wait to see what else you have to show.

  3. Hi Moriah, I have been to Europe only once, and it was for two weeks for a class with the university in Arezzo, Italy, so it is really cool to see people traveling and enjoying life! I have always wanted to go to England since I am a HUGE soccer (football, in their terms) and I want nothing more than to see a Liverpool game at Anfield, so fingers crossed that happens soon! Good luck with the rest of your semester!

  4. Hey Moriah! I have never been to the United Kingdom but I certainly would like to! The pictures you have of the UK look awesome. I wonder why there are barriers on the beach? It very cool that you have been all over the world! I have traveled to many places in the United States but I have not been outside it much. I really like remote places with mountains and stuff so I don't know how well I would do in London.

  5. Hey Moriah,

Wow! You have gotten to do a lot of overseas traveling. That is so awesome. I got to go to Italy for the first time this summer and can’t wait to go other places as well. London looks like a really cool city and while I am not such a big fan of the huge cities, I would love to see it sometime. The pictures you took are really beautiful and make me want to go even more, especially, the ones of the sea and the cliffs. It is so scenic and lovely.

Reading Notes : Hans Christian Andersen, Part B

ANOTHER FAVORITE. The Little Mermaid is such a classic, and the original slaps. I guess I am old and beaten down now, but this version is my new favorite. The Disney version will always have a special place in my heart and be a part of my childhood, but his original version is so poetic. It is definitely more my style; it leaves an impression when the heroine doesn't get to live happily ever after, which is okay too! The world Hans Christian Andersen weaves is glorious . I could feel the mermaid's pain, urgency, and suffocating need to love and be loved. This is a story that will never get old, part of it due to how beautifully it is written. One of my favorite parts is when he describes the five older sisters and the things they experienced going to the surface for the first time. The scenes he paints makes me feel like I am experiencing those beautiful landscapes for the first time, too. Often time mermaids are fantasized, and it was interesting seeing it from the other per...

Reading Notes : Heroes, Part A

One thing I really enjoyed so far about this reading is how long the stories are. Instead of individual stories per chapter, each of these takes up about three chapter for one story. I felt like this really helped with character and plot development. Also, unlike the Alaskan stories I read last week, these stories were a bit more realistic, in the sense that they took place (mainly) on earth with real animals and real events in nature. Everyone loves a good hero story, and all of these were untraditional in their own way which made them interesting. One that I particularly liked centered around a bluejay, whose selfish actions were the reason he got sent on a journey to begin with. But upon his return, despite overcoming many obstacles, his life is pretty much the same before. It was interesting how their definition of hero is quite different from those we typically think of. For humans, it means dominating as the top species. For animals, it usually means just surviving.  At ti...

Reading Notes : Hans Christian Andersen, Part A

I was able to revisit some of my favorite stories from my childhood with this reading. The work of Hans Christian Andersen is so iconic and touching even now. It is really different reading these stories as an adult than as a child; what I took literally before is now so symbolic. I hadn't read the story of the little tin soldier in so long, and with it came a flood of memories. One thing I really love about his writings is how visual they are. For kids, it helps immerse them in the world he is trying to make and really experience the story with the character. For adults, there is something kind of sad and wistful about it. His creativity brings the situations to life in a very enjoyable way. One way he does this is through the flow of the story; it read extremely well and is easy to follow. The narrative is super smooth and beautiful to read, which is a big plus. There is nothing 'hard' or difficult to read about it, and it isn't tedious or repetitive either. Every s...
